The Real Deal Computer Speakers

The Brier Patch highly recommends these.

The Control Pod is the catdaddy.

You've got to hear it to believe it. I'm driving a tricked out iMac "24" with all the bells...these would be the whistles.

Sorry to hit and run like this, but one day you're going to find out that Bose just use DSP trickery to fool novices into thinking that they're decent speakers, let alone worth the price asked. Next time you're in Best Buy (or anywhere that sells Bose) notice that they are never, ever near the other speakers. Why? Bose mandates this for their authorized retailers. The idea, of course, is to discourage the potential customers from comparing them to other speakers, often with far higher quality at half the price.
They are the only speaker company who does not publish their own specifications. That's like buying a computer just by fiddling with it at the store and not knowing what's under the hood. What IS under the hood, btw, are cheap paper drivers, resonate plastics, and wimpy magnets. They are EQ'd internally to sound pleasing at first impression...something you can do with any crappy old set of Logitechs and the iTunes equalizer.
Found this while doing a search for a replacement 2.1, myself. I'm sorry to have bothered you. I learned the Bose lesson the hard way and thought that your readers might benefit from it.

Regards,

Brian

We have a Bose system in our living room on the big TV; sounds ab-so-lutely fantabulous; I can only imagine them on your iMac!

I always find it humorous, no matter what type of speakers (or sound system however you want to term it) you might buy... there is always someone who is ready to tell you how crappy they are and how you just blew all that money for nothing.

The argument can then go 2 ways depending on the person... 1) you can get the same thing for about half the price if you just knew better and weren't such a sucker OR 2) the only stuff worth buying is a real investment of thousands of dollars but it's worth every penny and you don't really appreciate the difference because you (poor sod) were too cheap to buy something decent.

I don't know why this is so incredibly prevalent when it comes to sound systems, but so it is. I can't tell you how often I've had both sides of this thrown at me over the years. It's hilarious because if you like what you've bought and you like the sound, isn't that what counts??? According to the zealots who want to tell me what a mistake I've made... no that doesn't count a bit.

And so I end up laughing because I find it hilarious that people are so very earnest about "saving" me from such a dire mistake as having a "bad" sound system. I mean, just think about that for a moment - it really is very very funny. Saving you from bad sound!!! ROFLMAO!

I'm glad you are enjoying them. We have a Bose surround sound system for our television room and it's great. I don't listen to anything that really requires the extra speaker power with either my iMac or my pc, but if I did, I would certainly look at that system.

Hey Brian...novice I'm not. Cool I am...just ask any girl I know...

Teresa,
And isn't it great they always tell you all this brilliant stuff AFTER you've bought something. Where the hell were they when you were researching?

It's all a matter of personal preference anyway. Just like what you like in a car, a steak or a beer. What you think is the best someone else thinks it's a steaming pile.

Some people just need to make themselves feel superior and end up looking like steaming piles themselves by opening their pie-holes.

I also just noticed that Brian is one of those anonymous commenters with no link info. Someone so brilliant and informed should want people to come and see his magnormous intelligence on display, no?

Well, at least he called it right: Hit and run, indeed.
