A Few Of Questions For Bobooboma
How in the hell do you plan to pay off a trillion(s) dollar(s) plus health care plan? Are you crazy?
How are you going to pay off the stimulus package, those borrowed dollars? Now you're considering another one. Are you crazy? The first one hasn't worked.
What is your plan when China stops financing our (Treasury) our your debt?
Your plan to "put America on the right track" is ridiculous. You do not have a clue, or the experience to make a logical informed decision.
You know what Hussein Boy...If it was me, I would outsource your ass. Your ideology is Un-American. You are some Bad Juju...by the way, where were you born? I want to see your birth certificate. Just curious. I'll show you mine...no problem.
I think you're one big lie. Prove to me you're not. I mean that...prove it!
You are a loser, and not welcome in my house.
Boboboy, you can kiss my ass.

I Have To Agree
I'm not endorsing Palin, but I could not have said it better. I respect her for breaking for cover, and some time to regroup. She'll either get in the big game, or won't. Her choice.
I can tell you one thing for certain, Bobo's people are having, and will continue to have, a field day with this.
Whether or not she committed political suicide; only time will tell.
"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint,"
...the former Republican vice presidential candidate wrote in a posting on her Facebook page. Palin's spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed Palin wrote the entry...
We another party...maybe a couple.

Common Sense
I read Glen Beck's Common Sense last night. Also contains Common Sense written by Thomas Paine and first published anonymously on January 10, 1776, during the American Revolution.
It's definitely worth reading, whether you agree with him or not. Personally, I don't believe Beck is all doom and gloom, but that's just my opinion. I have always believed we need a third political party (maybe more). He takes no prisoners.

Tea Party
I will be attending a Tea Party tomorrow, after I drop a check in the mail. Damn!
I'm going, mainly, out of curiosity. I want to see what, I would like to think, like minded individuals are thinking. On the outside looking in, so to speak.
I believe we need a third party...no doubt, but I'm not sure I would call it the Tea Party.
Maybe we should call it Simon Jester.
Hell if I know, but we do need some Change. Hope left through the emergency exit.

Divorce
From Jack
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile, slate it up to irreconcilable differences, and go on our own ways.
Here is a model dissolution agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell (you are however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them).
We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's, and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.
You can make nice with Iran, Palestine, and France and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or way of life are under assault, we'll provide them job security.
We'll keep our Judeo-Christian Values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill. We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can
find.
You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors (that is practicing, Howard Dean) who will follow to your turf (sic). We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and The National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot.
Since it often so offends you we'll keep our History, our Name, and our Flag.
Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other likeminded
patriots and if you do not agree just hit delete and hang on.
In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR on who will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John Doe

P.S. Please take Barbra Streisand.

To All My Valued Employees,
There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country.
However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interests.
First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story. This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear. Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside. You've seen my big home at last years Christmas party. I'm sure; all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life.
However, what you don't see is the back story.
I started this company 28 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living apartment was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.
My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.
Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes. Instead of hitting the Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the Goodwill store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's. My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.
So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself. I unfortunately do not have the freedom. I eat, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to my hip like a 1 year old special-needs child. You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... You never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made.
Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail-out all the people who didn't. The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.
Yes, business ownership has is benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds.
Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:
I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what? I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes. You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.
The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check? Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country.
The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy.
Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what? Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.
When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart? Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the poor of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine. Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep.
So where am I going with all this?
It's quite simple.
If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more.
Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire. You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.
If you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about....
Signed,
Your boss « Close It

George W's War
While I'm on the box...
By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY
No one likes war. War is a horrific affair, bloody and expensive. Sending our men and women into battle to perhaps die or be maimed is an unconscionable thought. Yet some wars need to be waged, and someone needs to lead. The citizenry and Congress are often ambivalent or largely opposed to any given war. It's up to our leader to convince them. That's why we call the leader, "Commander in Chief."
George W.'s war was no different. There was lots of resistance to it. Many in Congress were vehemently against the idea. The Commander in Chief had to lobby for legislative approval.
Along with supporters, George W. used the force of his convictions, the power of his title and every ounce of moral persuasion he could muster to rally support. He had to assure Congress and the public that the war was morally justified, winnable and affordable. Congress eventually came around and voted overwhelmingly to wage war.
George W. then lobbied foreign governments for support. But in the end, only one European nation helped us. The rest of the world sat on its hands and watched.
After a few quick victories, things started to go bad. There were many dark days when all the news was discouraging. Casualties began to mount. It became obvious that our forces were too small .Congress began to drag its feet about funding the effort.
Many who had voted to support the war just a few years earlier were beginning to speak against it and accuse the Commander in Chief of misleading them. Many critics began to call him incompetent, an idiot and even a liar. Journalists joined the negative chorus with a vengeance.
As the war entered its fourth year, the public began to grow weary of the conflict and the casualties. George W.'s popularity plummeted. Yet through it all, he stood firm, supporting the troops and endorsing the struggle.
Without his unwavering support, the war would have surely ended, then and there, in overwhelming and total defeat.
At this darkest of times, he began to make some changes. More troops were added and trained. Some advisers were shuffled, and new generals installed.
Then, unexpectedly and gradually, things began to improve. Now it was the enemy that appeared to be growing weary of the lengthy conflict and losing support. Victories began to come, and hope returned.
Many critics in Congress and the press said the improvements were just George W.'s good luck.. The progress, they said,
would be temporary. He knew, however, that in warfare good fortune counts.
Then, in the unlikeliest of circumstances and perhaps the most historic example of military luck, the enemy blundered and was resoundingly defeated.
After six long years of war, the Commander in Chief basked in a most hard-fought victory.

Liberal Democrats

Leave it to people like Harry "Pinky" Reid, and "Babbah" Boxer to politicize a tragedy like the Southern California fires. However, that's the only thing those people know how to do. Heaven forbid if we all set politics aside for even 10 fucking minutes and come together to help those in need. That's not in the mind of today's liberal Democrat.
All Democrats know how to do is point fingers and play the blame game. How can I say that? Easy. Look at Katrina....same thing. We had the Gov. Of Louisiana saying there wasn't enough equipment to clean up after Katrina because it was all in Iraq (turns out she was lying, fancy that of course).
Today's liberal Democrat believes not in self reliance or self accountability. All accountability is that of the government and for the government to do everything for you, each and everyday. Here's the difference between liberals and conservatives, it's easy if you think about it for a moment:
Conservatives believe freedom and liberties are the solution to the human condition. Conservatives believe in rolling up one's sleeve and working hard to make money. Conservatives also believe in taking the responsibility for his/her own actions.
Liberal Democrats on the other hand do not believe in freedom and liberties being the solution to the human condition. Instead, liberal Democrats believe bigger government will solve all problems. The more government programs there are, the better. Liberal Democrats believe in the "MeMeMe" mentality.
This is why you always hear the liberal Democrats whine about the "big evil corporations" such as the oil companies, etc. I'll tell you what, I'd like to see a liberal Democrat complain about Exxon making too much money if he/she had shares of stock in Exxon. I bet we wouldn't hear the liberal crying then, would we?
"What can the government do for me, since I am so helpless to do things on my own?" That quote is precisely what's wrong with this country anymore. Too many people cannot accept the responsibility of his/her own actions. Hence why we have idiotic lawsuits where people are suing gun manufacturers because x handgun goes off after a teenage boy takes it upon himself to play "Russian Roulette" with it. Or, the infamous McDonald's "Spilled Hot Coffee" incident. I get so sick to my stomach when I think about how low some people in this country will go.
The Republicans aren't perfect, not by a god damn long shot. But I'll take the lesser of the two evils here. If the grotesque Hillary gets into the Presidency, you can kiss this country as you know it, goodbye. You can take that to the bank. « Close It

No Free Lunch
From the Inbox:
There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some Exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one of the exchange students, a young man, kept rubbing his back and stretching as if it hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting the communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question, "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke, "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. When the pigs, who are used to the free corn and walls, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They a re so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity."
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America . The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.
One should always remember there is no such thing as a free Lunch!
Also, you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. If you see that all of this wonderful government "HELP" is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

Bozo Ahmadinejad
We live in a free country, and I thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart and soul, who enable and support this freedom....but I can't believe we're going to let the psycho Ahmadinejad into our country. This nut case is as charismatic as Adolf Hitler, and just as evil. This piece of shit is dedicated to the destruction of our values, morals, and way of life...not just the complete annihilation of Israel, all Jews, the USA...but everyone who is not Muslim....and the fucking New York Times is taking him to lunch...WTF...
Now this bastard says he will not push to visit Ground Zero...WTF is going on? He is a sworn enemy of America, and we're going to give him the VIP treatment.
I understand all about the United Nations, but there should be some limitations. Fuck the United Nations...Fuck the ignorant Left..does the Left not realize that without International Security nothing Domestic matters?
Wouldn't it be great if he was assassinated while in the country of his most hated enemy? I don't care if it was a point blank double tap while dining with the traitors at the NYT, or if it was 2000 yard shot...or even a Soviet Umbrella.
Bottom line: The world would be a better place with Bozo Ahmadinejad dead, and we have the opportunity, and we should take advantage of it.
Think I'm crazy?

What's Wrong With This Picture

If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That's because they're praying.
This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the birthday of the corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. "These are federal employees", says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU, "on federal property and on federal time. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately."
When asked about the ACLU's charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Corps said (cleaned up a bit), "Screw the ACLU.""GOD Bless Our Warriors, Send the ACLU to France"
What's wrong with the picture? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

360 Degrees
There is a whole lot of chaos in the world now...We are under attack from all angles. This is war newly defined, and our enemy knows no borders. We must win at all costs, but to do that...we must all band together, or kill all the Democrats. I say Bwahahahahahah, but the fact of the matter is...if we elect a Democrat in 2008...we're all fucked.
Our five main problems are:
1. Islam
2. The Left
3. Illegal Imigrants
4. Drugs. Anything that must be processed, or any derivative of anything that results in white powder.
5. Freeloaders
I know, I know...the list could go on and on and on and on......
Now, having said this...I believe the following quote to be true.
War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.
- General William Tecumseh Sherman
Anyway, I'm taking a road trip...be back later.

Ted Be Da Man
Fucking Classic....I first saw my boy Ted live back in the 70's...Liked him then...Like him more now.
Billy's homework assignment is to think of a true story with a moral so he goes home and thinks about it all night and finally has one. The following day, Suzy raises her hand and says, "My dad owns a farm and every Sunday we load the chicken eggs on the truck and drive into town to sell them at the market. Well, one Sunday we hit a big bump and all the eggs flew out of the basket and onto the road."
The teacher asks for the moral to the story. Suzy replies, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."
Next is Lucy. "Well, my dad owns a farm, too, and every weekend we take the chicken eggs and put them in the incubator. Last weekend only 8 of the 12 eggs hatched. The moral is, don't count your chicks before they are hatched.''
Billy is last to speak. He says, ''My uncle Ted fought in the War in Iraq. His plane was shot down over enemy territory. He jumped out before it crashed, with only a parachute, a bottle of bourbon, a machine gun, and a machete. As he floated down he drank the bottle of bourbon. Unfortunately, he landed right in the middle of 100 Iraqi soldiers. He shot 70 with his machine gun, but ran out of bullets so he pulled out his machete and killed 20 more. The blade broke on his machete, so he killed the last 10 with his bare hands.''
The teacher looks in shock at Billy and asks if there is possibly any moral to his story.
Billy replies,

Deterrence
When a ballistic missile submarine is at launching depth, it is the third most powerful nation on this planet.
This is why geography doesn't matter. We can strike any country in the world with one of these.
The fact about a nuclear submarine...they never need to refuel ,and they can stay submerged until the food runs out (not water...they make their own)...or until the next to last crew member eats the last person on board...and then starves to death.
This is one bad ass ride
We've got 'em...the other side has 'em...and if either of us uses 'em...we're all fucked...maybe.
I find it interesting that the most complex and sophisticated technology ever developed by man...is developed to kill man. Aircraft, boats, ships, missiles, bullets, space lasers, and probably chemical and biological stuff...whatever...they are all designed to kill.
Deterrence won't work in this day and age...not against our current enemy, which happens to be Radical Islam, and which happens to know no borders. Islam ='s Brainwashing...If these people want to live in the 7th century, I say we help 'em get there quick...we can do it.
I say we win at all cost...whatever it takes. Sure, adjustments and sacrifices will have to be made, by everyone, but they won't be anywhere near the problems our young people will face in the future if we do nothing.
I agree with Al Gore when he says Mankind is facing the biggest problem ever, but, it is not global warming.
It is Radical Islam.
I say we do 'em all, and if we had a misfire that happened to hit Kalifornia...that wouldn't bother me at all.
Bwahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!

What Is This World Coming To
It's a beautiful day here in the Brier Patch. My front door is wide open...my back door is wide open...my puppy is all about me...my woman is happy...my garden is rocking....I've got a good job...life is good.
College aged young man, out of nowhere, approaches my front door.
I'm on the phone, and I tell him I don't have time. I mean...he could clearly see that I had the phone to my ear. I was talking on the fucking phone for goodness sake. It was business.
He said, "People like you are what is wrong with our country"
I said. "Excuse me?"
He said, "Fuck you", and began to walk away.
I said, "What did you say?"

Ladies and Gentleman, Friends and Neighbors, there are some whacked out people out there. Maybe he took offense with the American Flag I fly. I have no idea, but I can tell you for certain...if him and /or his buddies return...I'll put my puppy on 'em.
Crazy...this must be pick on me week...first the Termite Inspectors, and now some whacked out lefty college student.
Anyway, it got me to thinking...which gun would I use. Which caliber? Handgun or Shotgun or Rifle? How much time would I have to decide?
Or, do I use a blade? Or do I use my hands and feet?
Food for thought.

Independance Day
I want everyone to think about what Independence really means.
It means you should can kill your enemies to protect your families and your beliefs.
It means you have the freedom to decide what is best for you and yours...and act on that decision.
It means you have the freedom to stick by your guns...and use 'em when needed.
It means you have the freedom to be yourself...always.
It means you are free...whatever it takes.
I thank everyone who makes this possible for me.
I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

A Hypothetical Question
Let me ask you a hypothetical question. What do you think America would do if Canadian soldiers were firing dozens of missiles every day into Buffalo, N.Y.? What do you think our response would be if Mexican troops for two years had launched daily rocket attacks on San Diego -- and bragged about it?

Wipe The Plate Clean
My friend John Hardin who dreams in binary, responds to "Let's lay down our right to bear arms"
Ease on down below the fold...I put it there for your convenience.
Thanks John...
Mr. Plate:
I am writing this in response to your commentary "Let's lay down ourright to bear arms" as published on the CNN website at the following URL: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/18/commentary.plate/index.html
I would first like to address this section of your article, whichengendered the strongest emotional response in me:
"...the newspaper had received more angry letters and fiery faxes fromthe well-armed U.S. gun lobby ...
But the paper, by the way, also received more supportive letters... The common sense of ordinary citizens ..."
It is very offensive of you and others to lump all of the commentary in support of firearms rights under the banner of coming from "the Gun Lobby", as if those words should be simply dismissed without consideration because of their imagined source.
All of my opinions and writings about firearms rights, whether sent to newspapers, blogs, my elected representatives or in personal correspondence, are my own views expressed in my own words, arrived at
as the inescapable conclusions of my moral and ethical values after logical and rational reasoning. I don't need someone else to tell me what to think and say on this issue, and your dismissal of my words and the similar words of other individuals as being directed by "the Gun Lobby" is disrespectful and dishonest.
Are *your* views and commentary the product of the Anti-Gun Lobby, the Brady Bunch, or any other derogatory boogey-man name I can come up with?
Supporters of firearms rights are just as much "ordinary citizens" as those who oppose firearms rights, and we have just as much "common sense". In fact, I would argue supporters of firearms rights possess a greater degree of common sense than many if not most of the opponents of firearms rights, as we don't believe that utopia will magically be achieved if we can just ban all those evil guns, and we don't believe we are somehow immune from becoming victims of violent crime because we're nice, cheerful, responsible people. As a professor of ommunications, I expect you know exactly the rhetorical tactic you are using here, and it's being used intentionally. Please, show a little more respect.
On to the rest of your article...
I wonder why you expend so much column space dismissing the the ethnicity of the killer, a truly irrelevant factor in this tragedy. The author doth protest too much, methinks.
You say: "'Guns don't kill people,' goes the gun lobby's absurd mantra."
In what way is it absurd? When, outside of a tragic accident, has a firearm killed someone *without* a human being pointing it and pulling the trigger? And the basic truth behind this saying was recognized a thousand years before the first guns were invented:
"...quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est."
[...a sword never kills anybody; it's a tool in the killer's hand.]
-- (Lucius Annaeus) Seneca "the Younger" (ca. 4 BC-65 AD)
You say: "Foreigners sometimes believe that celebrities in America are more often the targets of gun violence than the rest of us. Not true. Celebrity shootings just make better news stories, so perhaps they seem common."
This is an unfortunate truth. The mainstream media focuses on and incessantly rehashes big, splashy acts of violence by criminals and the insane while resolutely ignoring the hundreds of thousands of
times every year that an armed citizen successfully defends themselves, their family or their business against a criminal act. Sadly, the latter just isn't sexy enough to sell air time. Thus many people, both here and abroad, get an unbalanced and inaccurate view of the value of firearms rights. And many internalize that view.
What do you as a professor of communications have to say about this disparity and obvious bias in reporting?
You said: "Last month, I was robbed at 10 in the evening in the alley behind my home. As I was carrying groceries inside, a man with a gun approached me where my car was parked. The gun he carried featured one of those red-dot laser beams, which he pointed right at my head.
Because I'm anything but a James Bond type, I quickly complied with all of his requests. Perhaps because of my rapid response (it is called surrender), he chose not to shoot me; but he just as easily could have. What was to stop him?"
I could make a snarky comment like "Certainly not you - you've chosen to be a helpless victim!" but I won't. Surprise is a powerful tactic, and even someone who is armed and willing to defend themselves can be trapped in an untenable position if taken by surprise. One of the first things that anyone who wishes to be other than a helpless victim must learn is to be aware of their surroundings at all times. It is far preferable to be aware of *and avoid* a risky situation than to find yourself trapped through inattentiveness.
You continue: "This occurred in Beverly Hills, a low-crime area dotted with upscale boutiques, restaurants and businesses -- a city best known perhaps for its glamor and celebrity sightings."
This just goes to show you that no neighborhood, no person, is immune to violent crime, and that "it won't happen here" is an utterly irresponsible worldview. Did you think you were somehow immune from being mugged because you live in an upscale neighborhood? Did you let your guard down because you were in a "safe place"?
"A near-death experience does focus the mind. We need to get rid of our guns."
"Our guns"? You have already made it clear you don't and won't arm yourself in your own defense. Please do not think you have any right to make that decision on my behalf for me. I choose not to be a helpless victim, and I have accepted the responsibility for the consequences of that decision. Have the honesty and maturity to accept the consequences of *your* decision to be a helpless victim, rather then trying to blame someone else or, yet worse, to blame an inanimate object.

"Our goal at DHS (Homeland Security) is to completely eliminate the 'catch and release' enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant, no exceptions.

I'm Sayin'
You know what's more annoying than someone full of pride, but has no game to show for it?
I tell ya: More annoying is someone who is brimming with pride AND has the game to back it up.
So, as Americans, we must be pretty fucking annoying. And I don't say that to bring a pissing match of accomplishments. A simple study of economic stats, trends, etc. and it's no contest; let's not go there.
Believe it or not, the "annoying" concession was sincere. That's as much humility as I can muster on the issue. We really, seriously, honest to God, must be pretty fucking annoying.
But what others must understand is that our economy could hit rock bottom, we could lose hundreds of thousands of men in battle, the White House could be taken out, and California could fall off into the fucking ocean... And there would STILL be those of us, the tried and true, waving our flags, loving our country, and spewing forth as much prideful sentiment as ever before... if not more.
As for today's discord, I understand that watching someone swell with pride only exacerbates any existing envy. That is human.
But having pride in your country and respecting the fact that others have pride in their homelands as well... That is also human.
Be the better human.

Ambushed
It was my post that started this comment war over at the Anti-Patriot Penguin.
The fact of the matter is: I was ambushed. I put up a post, and Nebb disagreed with it. Fine. Instead of responding in my comments, he chose to put up a post for the world, slamming me. He did not notify me at all. I just stumbled upon it a couple of weeks later. His closing two words were “Fuck You!”
I resent that, as I’m sure you would.
I am a patriot, and I’m proud of it. Patriotism is not limited to America. I have never had a problem with England or her subjects. Never. I have many Brit, Aussie, and Kiwi friends.
All I did was thank the American troops who have made sacrifices to protect my freedom. That is all. Asshole Nebb started this.
I am a good person. I am loyal, and I am respectful, and I am not lazy.
I just want to make sure we’re clear on this.

Homeschooling
I would say this is ahead of the curve.
When “Computerized Information Technology” was in its infancy, I often said:
”Whoever has access to the most accurate and comprehensive information the fastest, will be able to make better decisions, and if you're able to make better decisions...you will win.”…or something like that.
The same holds true for education.
Sad but True: Our public schools SUCK.

Memorial Day

First, let me say “THANKS” to everyone who is, or has been, in our military. I also thank all of you who support their sacrifices and our country.
I will never forget!
I also thank all of you for my freedom, and the ability to have a lazy-ass, lackadaisical, day like today.
Today is an absolutely gorgeous day here in North Carolina, and I haven’t done shit; except for tending my garden, patrolling with Stretch, talking with my beautiful wife, and having a cold beverage sooner than usual.
I’m a lucky man, and I have much to be thankful for…which is, most importantly…YOU PEOPLE.
Thank You!!!

Gun Rights Important As Free Speech
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, recalling how her father took up arms to defend fellow blacks from racist whites in the segregated South, said Wednesday the constitutional right of Americans to own guns is as important as their rights to free speech and religion.
"We have to be very careful when we start abridging rights that the Founding Fathers thought very important...I also don't think we get to pick and choose from the Constitution...the Second Amendment is as important as the First Amendment."
I have a great deal of admiration and respect for Condoleezza Rice.

Sitting Bullshit
Ann Coulter on Ward Churchill.
"...Churchill has gone from claiming he is one-eighth Indian "on a good day" to claiming he is "three-sixteenths Cherokee," to claiming he is one-sixty-fourth Cherokee through a Revolutionary War era ancestor named Joshua Tyner. (At least he's not posing as a phony Indian math professor.) A recent investigation by The Denver Post revealed that Tyner's father was indeed married to a Cherokee. But that was only after Joshua's mother –- and Churchill's relative -– was scalped by Indians..."

This full page ad was placed in the Washington Post by a businessman named George J. Esseff, Sr. He paid $104,655.60 to run the ad and only did it because he is sick and tired of the way that "The Rich" are portrayed by liberals these days. It is a great read! You're a Republican???

In today's America, ask a growing number of high school and college students; their teachers and professors; the self-anointed media elite and/or hard working men and women of all ethnicity's, the question, "What is a Republican?", and you'll be told "... a rich, greedy, egotistical individual, motivated only by money and the desire to accumulate more and more of it, at the expense of the environment, the working poor ... and all whom they exploit..."
I am a Republican . I am none of those things ... and I don't know any Republicans who are.
WHAT I, AM. first and foremost, is a loving husband of some 52 plus years, the father of four and an American who's proud of his country... and his country's heritage.
WHAT I AM .. is the grandson of immigrants who risked everything, including their lives and those of their children, to escape tyranny in search of freedom.
WHAT I AM . is a man who grew up during the Depression and witnessed, first hand, the effects of the Stock Market crash and the soup lines that followed. I watched as both my parents and grand parents, who had very little themselves, share what food they had with a half dozen other families, who had even less.
WHAT I AM .. is someone who worked his way through college by holding down three and four jobs at a time and then used that education to build a better life.
WHAT I AM . is a husband who, at age 24, started his own business for the "privilege" of working 60, 70 and 80 hours a week, risking everything I had, including my health, in search of a better life for myself and my loved ones.
WHAT I AM .. is a businessman whose blood, sweat and tears.... and plenty of them..., made it possible for me to provide a secure living, not only for my family and myself, but also for literally hundreds of my employees throughout the years. Employees, who in turn, were able to buy their own homes, raise their own families and give back to their communities and their country.
WHAT I AM .. is a man who believes in God; a God who has blessed this country... and all for which it stands.
WHAT I AM .. is someone who knows, if you doubt miracles exist in today's world, you need only to look into the face of those who received them ... and the eyes of those who give them.
WHAT I AM .. is an American who's proud that his President embraces a belief in God; proud of a President who understands, as "politically incorrect" as it may be, there is evil in this world and for the security and safety of all freedom loving people everywhere, it must be confronted ... and it must be defeated.
WHAT I AM .. is an American who takes comfort in the knowledge that our President refuses to allow decisions concerning the very safety and security of this nation, to be governed by the political whims of foreign governments.
WHAT I AM .. is tired of hearing from leading Democrats who see only negativity in America; racism in her people; class warfare in her society and "political incorrectness" in her character.
WHAT I AM .. is a former democrat who now understands that it is the soldier and not the reporter that guarantees us our freedoms of press, speech and dissent.
WHAT I AM .. is a man who believes in the sanctity of life. A man who is
Repulsed by the pandering of the political left for votes, at the expense of the unborn.
WHAT I AM .. is a husband and father who believes in the sanctity of marriage and the preservation of the family unit.
WHAT I AM .. is a movie go-er who is repulsed by those insecure, socially inept, elementary thinking, ego-inflated "entertainers" who have appointed themselves "experts" in the fields of national security and geo-politics and then use their forum to attack this nation, its leaders and its actions ... much to the delight and encouragement of our enemies.
WHAT I AM .. is an American who understands the difference between "Censorship" and "choice." Evidently, these individuals do not, because when these same "celebrities" receive public ridicule for their offensive actions, the first thing they yell is "Censorship!". What they seem incapable of understanding is ... the right of free speech and dissent is shared equally by those offended ... as well as those who offend. I support and will continue to support those films and performers whom I choose to ... and refuse to support those I don't. It is my right as an American .. a right I will continue to enthusiastically exercise.
WHAT I AM .. is a voter, tired of politicians, who, every time their voting records are subjected to public scrutiny, try to divert attention from their political and legislative failures by accusing their opponents of "attack ads" and "negative campaigning." .. and the news media who allow them to get away with it.
WHAT I AM ... is a Catholic who loves his God and his Faith ... and who's been taught to respect all religions whose teachings are based in love, peace and charity. As such, I am embarrassed and ashamed of those individuals, in both private and public life, whose decisions and actions are devoid of any sense of character or morals; individuals who are only driven by what's best for them ... rather than what's right ... often times at the expense of many ... including our national security.
WHAT I AM .. is a realist who understands that the terrorist attack that murdered hundreds of innocent Russian children could have occurred here, in our heartland. That's why I sincerely believe America needs now, more than ever, a President who sees with a clear and focused vision and who speaks with a voice when heard by both friend and foe alike, is understood, respected and believed.
WHAT I AM .. is eternally grateful to Ronald Reagan for having the bravery to speak out against Communism and the courage of his convictions in leading the fight to defeat it; and George W. Bush for the vision, courage, conviction and leadership he has shown in America's war on terrorism amidst both the constant and vicious, personal and political attacks both he and his family are made to endure.
WHAT I AM .. is a human being, full of numerous faults and failures, but a man nonetheless, who, though not always successful, has continually strived to do "what's right" instead of "what's easy." A man who is challenging the religious leaders of all faiths, to not only preach to their congregations the fundamentals of "what's right" and "what's wrong," but to also then hold them accountable for their actions in both the public and private sectors.
WHAT I AM .. is disgusted with the Courts who, on one hand, call the murder of a pregnant woman a "double homicide" but then refer to the abortion of her baby as, "pro-choice."
WHAT I AM .. is someone deeply troubled by a political party which embraces a candidate whose primary "leadership" qualities center around his protesting of the Vietnam war and his labeling the honorable men and women who fought in it, (50,000 of whom gave their lives in that action), as rapists, and war criminals. That same political party then stepped forward this year to block the appearance of a true Vietnam war hero, retired Admiral and former United States Senator, Jeremiah Denton, (a man who spent seven years and seven torturous months in a North Vietnam prison), from speaking before an open session of the California legislature as part of that state's 4th of July celebration. The reason Democrats gave for refusing to allow this American hero to speak before their state legislature was because of the "conservative" nature of his views. As an American, that troubles me deeply ... as well it should you.
WHAT I AM .. is a man who feels the need to spend, $104, 655.60,(tax paid) of his own money, to purchase this advertisement, in order to set the story traight. Some may say this money would have been better spent feeding the world's poor. At the risk of sounding self-serving, as an American and as a Republican, for the last six decades of my life, I have done exactly that ... and more. Following the examples of my parents and grand parents, I have used my earnings to feed the poor, shelter the homeless, provide housing for the elderly and medical care for the sick..... and continue to do so .. and I'm not alone in that work.
WHAT I AM .. is someone who is paying for this announcement, at my sole expense, in hopes of opening the eyes of those led blindly by ill-informed elements of our great nation, who, through either ignorance, or malicious intent, repeatedly attack and belittle those of us who belong to a political party that holds true to the belief, "... the rights of the governed, exceed the power of the government." For those interested, I am speaking only as a tax-paying individual who is in no way associated with The Republican National Committee, nor with any of its directors, or delegates.
WHAT I AM .. is a man who understands, "the American way of life" is a message of self-empowerment for all.
WHAT I AM .. is an American who is grateful that our nation gives each of us the opportunity of self-determination and the right to benefit from the fruits of self achievement.
WHAT I AM .. is an American who wants to preserve that way of life for all who seek it.
WHAT I AM .. is blessed to be an American.... and proud to be Republican.

My wife is in Kalifornia, out on the Left Coast, for about a week, and since she couldn’t fly with a handgun, I asked her not to get into any red state blue state discussions with anyone.
I also told her, “I wouldn’t even discuss Quiche.”
I do want her to return safe and sound, but, if she enters into any discussions on politics or religion with a blue state liberal, we’ve got a problem.
She will never back down.

The Joy Of Your Conscience
Why this Jewish American is voting for George W. Bush
By Naomi Ragen
As you know, I'm going off on my book tour to talk about The Covenant, a novel that tells the truth about Palestinian terrorism, and the ordinary Israelis who have been fighting on the front lines for years. By the time I come back, the election for President of the United States will be over and done, and we won't have this bone of contention to deal with, you and I. This is my last word on this topic.
But before I go, I'd like to tell you how it makes me feel when people on my list write me that I should butt out of the U.S. election because I live in Israel. People who write me that George W. Bush is an idiot because he doesn't care about the environment or healthcare, or abortions. That he lied about WMD, and shouldn't have gone into Iraq or Afghanistan. That it's his fault the war on terror is going badly. That they are proudly going to vote for his opponent, John Kerry, and give me a long list of reasons why.
It makes me sickeningly angry and depressed. And this is why:
I remember seeing my mother -in- law, who survived Auschwitz, and my father-in -law, whose first young wife and two babies were gassed there, wearing gas masks and sitting in a sealed room with their children and great-grandchildren, because Saddam Hussein was logging bombs at us and we were afraid he'd gas us as he did thousands of Kurds, his own people.
I remember watching the families of suicide bombers who killed hundreds of Israelis in the streets of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Netanya getting checks for $25,000 from Saddam Hussein.
I remember my daughter going to get gas masks for my grandchildren in the recent war because we were afraid Saddam Hussein would do it again.
I remember Arafat and Rabin on the lawn of the White House with President Clinton smiling, forcing them to shake hands. I remember the dozens of times Arafat came to the White House and was welcomed like a world leader. I remember Clinton's silence when the Intifada started, and how I felt when he wouldn't come out and condemn the Palestinians for breaking the agreements; when he suddenly backed off, talking about how both sides in the conflict were responsible.
I remember Clinton at the Democractic Convention, shaking hands with Kerry.
I remember Jimmy Carter and his numerous attempts to harm Israel during the Intifada, trying to tie it's leaders hands at defending us, shaking hands with Kerry.
I remember how finally, after September 11, we had a President in the White House that let us go after terrorists at home. A President that despite the lack of support of Israel's enemies: the U.N., France, Germany, and the rest of the EU who had been kissing Arafat's backside for years while he killed our children, decided to take out Saddam Hussein, and who did it, brilliantly in a few weeks, despite all the media naysayers and back biters.
Thank you George W. Bush. For getting Saddam Hussein off Israel's back so my children and my in-laws can put away their gas masks for good. Thank you George W. Bush, for passing the Patriot Act, which outlaws terrorist funding, and for going after the bankers who fund the murder of our children.
Thank you George W. Bush, for understanding there is an Axis of Evil, and for putting Syria and Iran on it.
Thank you, George W. Bush, for saving millions of women and girls from a fate worse than death by getting rid of the Taliban, so they can go to a doctor, go to school, and not be stoned publicly for not walking around like little tents.
For all those of you who haven't made up their minds. I hope this will help you.
As for those who sincerely believe they love Israel but are voting for John Kerry, I'd like to say this:
You are voting for a who wants to bring the US closer to France whose Ambassador to England called Israel " that s****y little country "; whose former Prime Minister called the establishment of Israel a "historic mistake" ; who has seen the most anti-Semitism of any European nation since World War Two;who willingly supplied Hussein not just with weapons but also with the nuclear reactor that Israel destroyed in 1981; and who continues to supply nuclear technology to Iran whose desire for nuclear weapons to destroy Israel is well known. A man who wants closer ties with the EU, who continues to supply funds being used by the Palestinians to commit terror attacks. A man who wants approval from the UN, whose ambulances ferry terrorists in Gaza to plant bombs to kill Israeli soldiers.
You are voting for a man who told the Arab-American Institute last year "how disheartened Palestinians are by the Israeli government's decision to build a barrier off the Green Line, cutting deeply into Palestinian areas" and went on to say that "We do not need another barrier to peace... and that provocative and counterproductive measures only harm Israel's security over the long term." A fence which has reduced terror attacks to almost nothing in it's areas,
saving thousands of Israeli lives.
A man who denounced the 'endless cycle of violence and reprisals" thereby equating Israel's defensive measures to root out killers to the murder of innocent Israelis by Palestinian terrorists; a man whose much touted "solid Senatorial record on votes for Israel" amounts to painless offers of moral support written and introduced by others. A man who in 2000 didn't join 60 co-sponsors of the "Middle East Peace Process Support Act" - a bill calling on the President not to recognize a unilaterally declared Palestinian state; a man who failed to co-sponsor a pro-Israel "Peace Through Negotiations Act." Who in
1993 failed to join 55 Senators in signing the Grassley/Lautenberg letter to the State Department, demanding that Hamas be listed as a terrorist organization. Who did not support the assassination of Sheikh Yassin. A man who surrounds himself with Mideast "experts" like Sandy Berger, who said in May 2000 that Palestinian violence was " a blessing " because it might speed up the egotiating process; Martin Indyk an ex-Ambassador to Israel who recently told Israel to unilaterally give up the strategically vital Golan Heights to Syria
because it was the only way to get rid of Hezbollah violence, who is widely known as Arafat's Yes-Man .
You are voting for a slick, multi-millionaire dilettante, who in twenty years in the Senate only managed to author, or co-author the following bills. (See http://www.factcheck.org/article282.html for all bills and the details )
S.1206: Names a federal building in Waltham, Massachusetts after Frederick C. Murphy, who was killed in action during World War II and awarded (posthumously) the Medal of Honor. (1994) a..
S.1636: A save-the-dolphins measure aiming "to improve the program to Reduce the incidental taking of marine mammals during the course of commercial fishing operations." (1994)
S.1563: Funding the National Sea Grant College Program, which supports university-based research, public education, and other projects "to promote better understanding, conservation and use of America's coastal resources." (1991)
S.423: Granting a visa and admission to the U.S. as a permanent resident to Kil Joon Yu Callahan. (1987)
H.R.1900 (S.300) Awarded a congressional gold medal to Jackie Robinson (posthumously), and called for a national day of recognition. (2003)
H.R.1860(S.856): Increased the maximum research grants for small
businesses from $500,000 to $750,000 under the Small Business Technology Transfer Program. (2001)
S.J.Res.158: To make the week of Oct. 22 Oct. 28, 1989 "World Population Awareness Week." (1989)
S.J.Res.160: To renew "World Population Awareness Week" for 1991. (1991)
S.J.Res.318: To make Nov. 13, 1992 "Vietnam Veterans Memorial 10th
Anniversary Day." (1992)
S.J.Res.337: To make Sept. 18, 1992"National POW/MIA Recognition Day."
(1992)
S.Res.123: To change the name of the Committee on Small Business to the
"Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship." (2001)
S.Res.133: To make May 21, 1991 "National Land Trust Appreciation Day."
(1991)
S.Res.144: To encourage the European Community to vote to ban driftnets for all European Community fishing fleets. (1991 )
S.Res.216: Honoring Milton D. Stewart for his leadership and service at the Small Business Administration. (2002)
S.Con.Res.26: Calling for the United States to support a new agreement providing for a ban on commercial mining of minerals in Antarctica. (1991)
For all those of you who decide that you prefer this man to one who (in the words of one list-member) "took out Saddam Hussein, stepped on Arafat's neck, backed Israel's war on the terrorists, and gave the EU and UN Palestinian apologists the mighty finger" what can I say?
I wish you the joy of your conscience come voting day.
I'd also like to say this: If George W. Bush is elected (please God), do I expect him to do things I won't like? Do I expect him to pressure Israel into doing things I don't approve of? You bet I do, I'm not naive. But given my choice, I also expect to be around at the end of the next four years to vote again. With Kerry, I'm not so sure.

MATTHEW MANWELLER'S COMMENTARY ON THIS ELECTION
Read More »
The commentary is from Matthew Manweller, a political science professor at Central Washington University. Here is the text of that commentary:
"In that this will be my last column before the presidential election, there will be no sarcasm, no attempts at witty repartee. The topic is too serious, and the stakes are too high.
This November we will vote in the only election during our lifetime that will truly matter. Because America is at a once-in-a-generation crossroads, more than an election hangs in the balance. Down one path lies retreat, abdication and a reign of ambivalence. Down the other lies a nation that is aware of its past and accepts the daunting obligation its future demands. If we choose poorly, the consequences will echo through the next 50 years of history. If we, in a spasm of frustration, turn out the current occupant of the White House, the message to the world and ourselves will be two-fold.
First, we will reject the notion that America can do big things. Once a nation that tamed a frontier, stood down the Nazis and stood upon the moon, we will announce to the world that bringing democracy to the Middle East is too big a task for us. But more significantly, we will signal to future presidents that as voters, we are unwilling to tackle difficult challenges, preferring caution to boldness, embracing the mediocrity that has characterized other civilizations. The defeat of President Bush will send a chilling message to future presidents who may need to make difficult, yet unpopular decisions. America has always been a nation that rises to the demands of history regardless of the decisions. America has always been a nation that rises to the demands of history regardless of the costs or appeal. If we turn away from that legacy, we turn away from whom we are.
Second, we inform every terrorist organization on the globe that the lesson of Somalia was well learned. In Somalia, we showed terrorists that you don't need to defeat America on the battlefield when you can defeat them in the newsroom. They learned that a wounded America can become a defeated America. Twenty-four hour news stations and daily tracing polls will do the heavy lifting, turning a cut into a fatal blow. Except that Iraq is Somalia times 10. The election of John Kerry will serve notice to every terrorist in every cave that the soft underbelly of American power is the timidity of American voters. Terrorists will know that a steady stream of grizzly photos for CNN is all you need to break the will of the American people. Our own self-doubt will take it from there. Bin Laden will recognize that he can topple any American administration without setting foot on the homeland.
It is said that America's WWII generation is its "greatest generation." But my greatest fear is that it will become known as America's "last generation." Born in the bleakness of the Great Depression and hardened in the fire of WWII, they may be the last American generation that understands the meaning of duty, honor, and sacrifice. It is difficult to admit, but I know these terms are spoken with only hollow detachment by many (but not all) in my generation. Too many citizens today mistake "living in America" as "being an American." But America has always been more of an idea than a place. When you sign on, you do more than buy real estate. You accept a set of values and responsibilities. This November, my generation, which has been absent too long, must grasp that 100 years from now historians will look back at the election of 2004 and see it as the decisive election of our century. Depending on the outcome, they will describe it as the moment America joined the ranks of ordinary nations; or they will describe it as the moment the prodigal sons and daughters of the greatest generation accepted their burden as caretakers of the City on the Hill."

Unfit Period
From the introduction of UNFIT FOR COMMAND
"I do not believe John Kerry is fit to be commander in chief of the armed forces of the United States. This is not a political issue. It is a matter of his judgment, truthfulness, reliability, loyalty, and trust--all absolute tenets of command."

Not Quite A Prediction
A lot of folks I know are worried that “Bush is done”, after the left wing press claimed Kerry won the debate. I think not…intelligent people realize that Kerry is adept at spinning lying in front of the public. Nothing has changed. Kerry did not put forth a plan for anything; he just tried to do his new can tan justice. I might be wrong, but I don’t think a couple of hours on prime time will sway the election…either way. I would like to believe that people aren’t that stupid.
Surely, people realize this election is about issues, and quite frankly, about the future of the “West” “World” as we know it…not about who can bullshit more effectively.
Some people have trouble making decisions, period. Many of the aforementioned people are not for Kerry, but against Bush. This is the true problem. Everyone must understand, we have two choices, and two choices only…think about it, and make the best decision for your family and friends. Think about the future. Honestly, that is all you can do.
I can tell you one thing…Hillary is pissed.

I like this woman...she pulls no punches.
...Fuck Kerry, fuck Edwards, fuck Heinz. I'd much rather be bombing Iraq than eating overly-vinegary ketchup made in India (Speaking of which, aren't you all against jobs overseas? HA!). I'd rather be living safely than worrying about how my hair looks. I'd rather follow an honest man instead of someone who looks and talks like Lurch...

"Yes-No-Maybe" Bowl Of Mush
John "Ambulance Chaser" Edwards said of Zell Miller's speech:
"I think it was way over the top, it was sad"
The full text is below, and would someone please tell me what Edwards meant.
Since I last stood in this spot, a whole new generation of the Miller Family has been born: Four great grandchildren.
Along with all the other members of our close-knit family, they are my and Shirley's most precious possessions.
And I know that's how you feel about your family also. Like you, I think of their future, the promises and the perils they will face.
Like you, I believe that the next four years will determine what kind of world they will grow up in.
And like you, I ask which leader is it today that has the vision, the willpower and, yes, the backbone to best protect my family?
The clear answer to that question has placed me in this hall with you tonight. For my family is more important than my party.
There is but one man to whom I am willing to entrust their future and that man's name is George Bush (news - web sites).
In the summer of 1940, I was an 8-year-old boy living in a remote little Appalachian valley. Our country was not yet at war, but even we children knew that there were some crazy men across the ocean who would kill us if they could.
President Roosevelt, in his speech that summer, told America "all private plans, all private lives, have been in a sense repealed by an overriding public danger."
In 1940, Wendell Wilkie was the Republican nominee.
And there is no better example of someone repealing their "private plans" than this good man. He gave Roosevelt the critical support he needed for a peacetime draft, an unpopular idea at the time.
And he made it clear that he would rather lose the election than make national security a partisan campaign issue.
Shortly before Wilkie died, he told a friend, that if he could write his own epitaph and had to choose between "here lies a president" or "here lies one who contributed to saving freedom," he would prefer the latter.
Where are such statesmen today?
Where is the bipartisanship in this country when we need it most?
Now, while young Americans are dying in the sands of Iraq (news - web sites) and the mountains of Afghanistan (news - web sites), our nation is being torn apart and made weaker because of the Democrat's manic obsession to bring down our Commander in Chief.
What has happened to the party I've spent my life working in?
I can remember when Democrats believed that it was the duty of America to fight for freedom over tyranny.
It was Democratic President Harry Truman who pushed the Red Army out of Iran, who came to the aid of Greece when Communists threatened to overthrow it, who stared down the Soviet blockade of West Berlin by flying in supplies and saving the city.
Time after time in our history, in the face of great danger, Democrats and Republicans worked together to ensure that freedom would not falter. But not today.
Motivated more by partisan politics than by national security, today's Democratic leaders see America as an occupier, not a liberator.
And nothing makes this Marine madder than someone calling American troops occupiers rather than liberators.
Tell that to the one-half of Europe that was freed because Franklin Roosevelt led an army of liberators, not occupiers.
Tell that to the lower half of the Korean Peninsula that is free because Dwight Eisenhower commanded an army of liberators, not occupiers.
Tell that to the half a billion men, women and children who are free today from the Baltics to the Crimea, from Poland to Siberia, because Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) rebuilt a military of liberators, not occupiers.
Never in the history of the world has any soldier sacrificed more for the freedom and liberty of total strangers than the American soldier. And, our soldiers don't just give freedom abroad, they preserve it for us here at home.
For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives that protester the freedom to abuse and burn that flag.
No one should dare to even think about being the Commander in Chief of this country if he doesn't believe with all his heart that our soldiers are liberators abroad and defenders of freedom at home.
But don't waste your breath telling that to the leaders of my party today. In their warped way of thinking America is the problem, not the solution.
They don't believe there is any real danger in the world except that which America brings upon itself through our clumsy and misguided foreign policy.
It is not their patriotism — it is their judgment that has been so sorely lacking. They claimed Carter's pacifism would lead to peace.
They were wrong.
They claimed Reagan's defense buildup would lead to war.
They were wrong.
And, no pair has been more wrong, more loudly, more often than the two Senators from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry (news - web sites).
Together, Kennedy/Kerry have opposed the very weapons system that won the Cold War and that is now winning the War on Terror.
Listing all the weapon systems that Senator Kerry tried his best to shut down sounds like an auctioneer selling off our national security but Americans need to know the facts.
The B-1 bomber, that Senator Kerry opposed, dropped 40 percent of the bombs in the first six months of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The B-2 bomber, that Senator Kerry opposed, delivered air strikes against the Taliban in Afghanistan and Hussein's command post in Iraq.
The F-14A Tomcats, that Senator Kerry opposed, shot down Khadifi's Libyan MIGs over the Gulf of Sidra. The modernized F-14D, that Senator Kerry opposed, delivered missile strikes against Tora Bora.
The Apache helicopter, that Senator Kerry opposed, took out those Republican Guard tanks in Kuwait in the Gulf War (news - web sites). The F-15 Eagles, that Senator Kerry opposed, flew cover over our Nation's Capital and this very city after 9/11.
I could go on and on and on: against the Patriot Missile that shot down Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s scud missiles over Israel; against the Aegis air-defense cruiser; against the Strategic Defense Initiative; against the Trident missile; against, against, against.
This is the man who wants to be the Commander in Chief of our U.S. Armed Forces?
U.S. forces armed with what? Spitballs?
Twenty years of votes can tell you much more about a man than twenty weeks of campaign rhetoric.
Campaign talk tells people who you want them to think you are. How you vote tells people who you really are deep inside.
Senator Kerry has made it clear that he would use military force only if approved by the United Nations (news - web sites).
Kerry would let Paris decide when America needs defending.
I want Bush to decide.
John Kerry, who says he doesn't like outsourcing, wants to outsource our national security.
That's the most dangerous outsourcing of all. This politician wants to be leader of the free world.
Free for how long?
For more than 20 years, on every one of the great issues of freedom and security, John Kerry has been more wrong, more weak and more wobbly than any other national figure.
As a war protester, Kerry blamed our military.
As a Senator, he voted to weaken our military. And nothing shows that more sadly and more clearly than his vote this year to deny protective armor for our troops in harms way, far away.
George Bush understands that we need new strategies to meet new threats.
John Kerry wants to re-fight yesterday's war. George Bush believes we have to fight today's war and be ready for tomorrow's challenges. George Bush is committed to providing the kind of forces it takes to root out terrorists.
No matter what spider hole they may hide in or what rock they crawl under.
George Bush wants to grab terrorists by the throat and not let them go to get a better grip.
From John Kerry, they get a "yes-no-maybe" bowl of mush that can only encourage our enemies and confuse our friends.
I first got to know George Bush when we served as governors together. I admire this man. I am moved by the respect he shows the first lady, his unabashed love for his parents and his daughters, and the fact that he is unashamed of his belief that God is not indifferent to America.
I can identify with someone who has lived that line in "Amazing Grace," "Was blind, but now I see," and I like the fact that he's the same man on Saturday night that he is on Sunday morning.
He is not a slick talker but he is a straight shooter and, where I come from, deeds mean a lot more than words.
I have knocked on the door of this man's soul and found someone home, a God-fearing man with a good heart and a spine of tempered steel.
The man I trust to protect my most precious possession: my family.
This election will change forever the course of history, and that's not any history. It's our family's history.
The only question is how. The answer lies with each of us. And, like many generations before us, we've got some hard choosing to do.
Right now the world just cannot afford an indecisive America. Fainthearted self-indulgence will put at risk all we care about in this world.
In this hour of danger our President has had the courage to stand up. And this Democrat is proud to stand up with him.
Thank you.
God Bless this great country and God Bless George W. Bush. « Close It

I Like This Democrat
From the Comments on this post:
Kerry totally sold out his brothers in Vietnam after he returned with those phony blown all out of proportion medals. As a Democrat, I wish I could vote for him but he is a traitor who should have been prosecuted as such years ago.
Maybe (hopefully) the election won't be as close as I think.
I agree; his medals are phony, he is a traitor, and he should've been prosecuted. I do not trust him.
I absolutely cannot believe that so many Americans (the press included ?) believe that Kerry can do a better job than Bush with regards to the war on terror and the future of America, and the world. That's right...the world...right, wrong, or indifferent, America is a Superpower...the world needs us...and that is just the way it is. That about covers it all. Remember, if we Americans are not secure internationally, any of our domestic policies will not matter.
This is not a "maybe / if situation"...this is a "yes / no" situation. Bush might not be the greatest, but electing Kerry is the worst possible scenario.
He will surrender all that I believe in, all of the values I was raised with, everything I've been taught, to a bunch of cowards who are afraid to take action for fear of offending other cowards who haven't a clue as to what the rules of the game are. The world has changed...we must adapt.
We did not start this...but, we must finish it...no one else can.
This, my friends, is the truth!
By the way...I am an Independent!

The time left until the 2004 Presidential Election is 78 days and 8 hours.

Purple Hearts: Three and Out
Posted April 12, 2004
By Stephen Crump
Kerry glows with pride while wearing one of the Purple Hearts he desperately sought.
Democratic presidential nominee in waiting Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) requently speaks of courage, brotherhood and responsibility when he mentions his brief service in Vietnam. He took Super-8 home movies there in which he staged heroics in full-battle dress, so that later he might use them for campaign ads. Kerry has made so much of his Vietnam medals which he once pretended to throw away that critics have begun to wonder why he has been so cagey about the dubious circumstances surrounding the Purple Hearts that got him out of Vietnam after only four months of combat service. Under the rules, a serviceman had to be awarded three Purple Hearts to apply to go home. Not one or two, but three. And, say critics, there's the rub.
Kerry, who piloted Patrol Crafts Fast (PCFs) as a young Lt.(jg) in the Vietnam War, has always made much of those Purple Hearts. An award often pinned on the pillow of a combat warrior so badly wounded that he cannot sit up to receive it, the Purple Heart recognizes the sacrifices of combat when a soldier or officer has sustained a wound "from an outside force or agent" and received treatment from a medical officer. The records for such treatment "must have been made a matter of official record," according to the military definition of the award.
According to Kerry's own description in Douglas Brinkley's Tour of Duty, the Dec. 2, 1968, mission behind what he has claimed to be his first Purple Heart was "a half-assed action that hardly qualified as combat. "Indeed. Kerry was stationed with Coastal Division 14 at Cam Ranh Bay. At that time he piloted a small foam-filled boat, known as a Boston Whaler, with two enlisted men in the darkness of early morning. The intent, apparently, was to patrol an area that was known for contraband trafficking, but it was an undocumented mission. Upon approaching the objective point, the crew noticed a sampan crossing the river. As it pulled to shore, Kerry and his little team opened fire, destroying the
boat and whatever its cargo might have been.
In the confusion, Kerry claims to have received a "stinging piece of heat" in the arm, the result of a tiny piece of shrapnel. He was not incapacitated and continued with regular swiftboat-patrol duty. William Shachte, who oversaw this ad hoc mission, was quoted by the Boston Globe as saying Kerry's injury, from whatever source, "was not a serious wound at all."
But Kerry met with his immediate superior officer, Lt.Cmdr. Grant Hibbard, the next morning and requested a Purple Heart for his wound. Hibbard recalls that Kerry had a "minor scratch" on his arm and was holding in his hand what ppeared to be a fragment of a U.S. M-79 grenade, the shrapnel that had caused the wound. "They didn't receive enemy fire," Hibbard tells Insight. Since this was an essential requirement for the award, the commander rejected Kerry's request. Hibbard does not remember that Kerry received medical attention of any kind and confirms that no one else on the mission suffered any injuries.
Shortly thereafter, Kerry was transferred to Coastal Division 11 at An Thoi. Apparently, Kerry petitioned to have his Purple Heart request reconsidered. Hibbard remembers getting correspondence from Kerry's new division, asking for his approval. In the hurried process of moving to a new command himself, Hibbard thinks he might have signed off on the award. If so, "it was to my chagrin," Hibbard remembers. Kerry's second commander, Lt.Cmdr. G.M. Elliott, says he has no recollection of such an event ever occurring.
There are no written records of Kerry's magical first Purple Heart on file at the Naval Historical Center in Washington, the nation's primary repository for such documentation. A Purple Heart normally is not requested but is awarded de facto for a wound inflicted by the enemy - a wound serious enough to require medical attention. The Naval Historical Center keeps all documents connected to such awards to U.S. Navy and Marine personnel. These typewritten "casualty cards" list the date, location and prognosis of the wound for which the Purple Heart is given, and they are produced by the medical facility that provides treatment for the combat wound at the hands of the enemy. There are two such cards for Kerry - for his slight wounds on Feb. 20 and March 13, 1969, but
none for his December 1968 claim.
After receiving a Purple Heart for the March 13 scratch and bruise, Kerry sought an early pass out of combat duty, invoking the informal Navy "instruction" known as 1300.39. According to the Boston Globe, 1300.39 meant an officer could request a reassignment from his superior officer after receiving three Purple Hearts. The instruction states that, rather than being automatic, the reassignment would "be determined after consideration of his physical classification for duty and on an individual basis." Of the 138 servicemen and officers in Kerry's unit who received Purple Hearts during the time he was there, records indicate only two received more than two. These were Lt.(jg) Jim Galvin and a boatswain's mate named Stevens. When Insight reached Galvin he
said all three of his Purple Hearts were the result of shrapnel or glass shards. Such minor injuries were common on PCF boats with their glass windows and thin metal hulls, and, like Kerry's, Galvin's injuries were not serious enough to take him out of combat for more than a few days. Unlike Kerry, Galvin elected to stay with his men. Indeed, though a professional Navy officer, he never had heard of instruction 1300.39. It was not until early April of 1969, when Galvin noticed that Kerry was preparing to leave the officers' barracks at An Thoi that he learned about "three Purple Hearts and you're out." According to Galvin, it was Kerry who told him, "There's a rule that gets you out of here and I'm
getting out. You ought to do the same." Galvin remembers, "He seemed to take care of everything pretty quickly," because that was the last time Galvin saw Kerry in Vietnam. The three-times wounded Galvin stayed with his men, transferred to Cam Ranh Bay to get them a respite from the dicey Mekong Delta, and eventually left the swiftboats for destroyer school.
Insight: contacted many men who served in Coastal Division at the same
time Kerry did to ask if any of them had heard of anyone leaving the combat zone by invoking three minor wounds. Of the 12 who replied, none had heard of anyone doing so but John Kerry." Less than a month after having claimed three wounds for which he lost no more than a total of two days of duty, Kerry reported as an aide to a navy yard admiral in Brooklyn, New York, leaving his crew in Vietnam. Two years later, preparing for a congressional race in a left-wing Massachusetts district - where the seat eventually was won by the even
more radical Rev. Robert Drinan - Kerry was working with Maoists and other radicals in Vietnam Veterans Against the War, saying of those he left behind who were being killed and wounded for real that they were committing crimes "on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels."
Indeed, Kerry said, he knew men who in Vietnam "had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks and generally ravaged the countryside." Addressing the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971, about these and other alleged war crimes, he called on the United States to pay "extensive reparations."Stephen Crump is an associate reporter for Insight magazine.

The Rugby Club
I have been known, from time to time, to hang with a Rugby Club. To be honest, you've got to be in shape to do this. Nothing ever ends...it just keeps on going and going and going....
Anyway, my best friend had an unexpected tragedy in his life, and I went to him to provide whatever support I could.
The doorbell rang. I answered it and found a mob of dirty, bleeding, honorable souls.
The Leader said, "You must be Sam”...I replied that'd be me... he said - “We're Bob's TEAM!"
Pick me up off the floor....

A Feminist Icon ?
Personally, I have a great deal of respect for Ann Coulter. I've read everything she's ever written. She's smart, witty, pulls no punches, and never backs down. I admire these traits in anyone, not just women.
Read this for another perspective.

Right Thinking Woman
Ann Coulter is Right again.
Excerpt:
The main lesson from the court's discovery of the hidden gay-marriage clause is that these judges are in the wrong job. If they can find a right to gay marriage in the Massachusetts Constitution – never before detected by any human being – we need to get them looking for Osama bin Laden. These guys can find anything!
